"Why We Age"?

“Why We Age” is a hard question to answer.  I had never really thought about why we age or how it happens, I just knew it was something everyone went through.  All three theories brought up in the reading had interesting points and seemed logical at certain times.  It is amazing how many different theories can exist for this particular question.  I believe that there are many reasons why we age.  Everyone ages differently, both mentally and physically and it is hard to explain the exact reason why.  Genetics seems to be a very logical reason, because everyone has a different genetic make-up, explaining why people age at different rates and have differing life spans.  Eventually our body just wears out and can’t support our lifestyle anymore.  This would also explain why if someone in your family lives to an older age, you are more likely to live to an older age as well.
One interesting point I found in the reading was how if you ask different people about why we age they will give you different answers.  Such as if you ask a neurologist he will say its because of the brain versus a cardiologist explaining that its because of the heart.  This makes it understandable why we have so many different theories on aging, because so many people have different expertise.  This also makes it harder to narrow the reasons of why we age down, because different people will probably always believe different things.

Healthy Development and Aging

Hey Everyone,
My name is Holly Oliver and I am a junior majoring in finace.

I am interested in Healthy Development and Aging, because it is a topic that can apply to everyone.  I believe being healthy and knowing how to be healthy is a very important aspect of life. There are many different ways to develop healthy lifestyles and age well.  Even though my major has nothing to do with the field of health or aging I still find the topic appealing because I can apply what I learn to make me a healthier person.
